An article by the China-CEEC Customs Information Center, which is dedicated to the 2026 China-Bulgaria Subnational Cooperation Forum held in Ningbo – a mechanism established in 2024, focuses on the role of the city of Ningbo in trade cooperation between China and the Central and Eastern European Countries (CEECs).

The city is the host to the China-CEEC Expo and International Consumer Goods Fair, which has been taking place since 2019. The article notes that during the 4th edition of the trade fair, held in 2025, the temporary exhibition area covered 80,000 square meters, with nearly 1,500 enterprises participating and with 17,000 professional buyer visits.

The article highlights the importance of Ningbo Port, which has ranked first in the world in terms of annual cargo throughput for 17 years in a row. Ningbo is regarded as a point of entry of Bulgarian rose essential oil and other specialty products. According to Ningbo Customs statistics, in Q1 2026, Ningbo’s total value of import and export with the CEE countries amounted to RMB 14.5 billion, up 8% quarter-on-quarter.

Another article by the China-CEEC Customs Information Center on China-CEEC economic and trade cooperation refers to a growing agricultural and food product trade between China and the CEECs according to Chinese statistics. In the first half of 2026, the value of China-CEE agricultural trade amounted to RMB 7.58 billion, which represents an increase of 16.2% year-on-year. Imports reported a growth of 34.8%, and exports went up by 11.8%. The article points out that the CEEC countries boast abundant and high-quality agricultural, forestry, and aquatic resources. It notes that CEE’s dairy products, wine, meat, and other specialty products are well-received on the Chinese market.

Ningbo Customs has explored new models of customs-to-customs cooperation, the article notes, and has established collaboration channels with relevant overseas authorities. In the first half of this year, Ningbo’s imports of agricultural products from the CEECs amounted to RMB 110 million, up 71.9% year-on-year.
