The team of the Association for the Promotion of Agricultural Cooperation between China and the Central and Eastern European Countries wishes all citizens and residents of Bulgaria a Happy Liberation Day. The liberation on March 3, 1878, arrived following more than a century of National Revival and liberation struggles. The Bulgarian liberation movement peaked during the April Uprising in 1876. There were a few dramatic moments in the year after – the battles near Stara Zagora, for the Shipka Pass, near Pleven, as well as the hard winter passage of the Balkan Range. A Bulgarian voluntary corps was recruited for the battles. During the defense of Stara Zagora, and more notably in the hostilities at the Shipka Pass the Bulgarian volunteers fought with remarkable skill and bravery. During this period the Samara flag was woven, it was given to the Bulgarian volunteers in the Liberation War of 1877-78 by the citizens of the city of Samara on 18 May 1877. The Samara flag remains the only flag that has been awarded the Bulgarian “Order of Bravery”.
