In the period September 26-28, 2016 the city of Sofia hosted the first meeting of mayors and representatives of local authorities of the 16+1 Initiative entitled “Sofia – the Intersection of New Opportunities”.
On September 27, 2016, the Sofia Municipality and China organized an international business forum under the 16+1 Initiative. The Association for the Promotion of Agricultural Cooperation between China and the Central and Eastern European Countries (APACCCEEC) is a partner of the event, Mayors and representatives of municipalities of China and the countries of Central and Eastern Europe are invited to participate.
The event, which will be attended by the mayors of the capitals of the CEECs and China, aims to promote cooperation in the fields of transport and logistics, agriculture and tourism.
As part of the forum, there will be a meeting on innovation, industry and modern city.
16+1 is an initiative of the Government of China aimed at promoting cooperation between China and sixteen Central and Eastern European countries: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Montenegro, Poland , Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia and the Republic of Macedonia.
The 16+1 Initiative launched in 2012 aims to foster economic, political and cultural exchange between Central and Eastern European (CEE) countries and China through a series of meetings between heads of state and government, business forums and other events dedicated to topics such as tourism, education, agriculture, energy and infrastructure.
As part of the 16+1 Initiative, in 2012, the Government of China established a Secretariat for Cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Several additional country-coordinated organizations have been set up. In 2015, APACCCEEC was established in Sofia.
