The team of the Association for the promotion of agricultural cooperation between China and the Central and Eastern European countries wishes all citizens and residents of Greece Happy Independence Day!

On this day, the Greeks celebrate the Greek Revolution of 1821 which resulted in the liberation and independence of the Greek nation from Ottoman rule that lasted for four centuries. The revolution started on the 21st of February 1821 and continued till the 12th of September 1829 when near the town of Petra, the final battle of the conflict occurred.

The celebration of this day was established in 1838 with a Royal Decree by King Otto, the first modern king of Greece. This day, the 25th of March is chosen as it is the feast day of the Annunciation and was planned to be starting date for the Greek Revolution if it was not for the Ottoman authorities who learned about the intentions of the Greek freedom fighters. This forced the leaders of the Greeks to start the uprising earlier.
