The team of the Association for the Promotion of Agricultural Cooperation between China and Central and Eastern European countries wishes all citizens, residents and friends of Greece Happy Independence Day!

Today, Greece celebrates its National Day – the outbreak of the Greek War of Independence in 1821, which eight years later led to the overthrow of the Ottoman rule in what is now southern Greece and the establishment of an independent Greek state. In 1834, Athens was officially declared the country’s capital.

On March 25, 1821, the Orthodox Metropolitan of Patras, Germanos, blessed the blue-and-white Greek flag in the Peloponnese, symbolically marking the beginning of the Greek uprising against centuries of Ottoman rule in the region. March 25 holds profound significance for the Greek people, who also honor the religious Feast of the Annunciation (Greek: Εὐαγγελισμός)—the day when, according to Christian tradition, the Virgin Mary learned she would give birth to Jesus Christ.

The culmination of the celebrations is the military parade in Athens, traditionally held in the city center from Syntagma Square (Πλατεία Συντάγματος) to Omonoia Square (Πλατεία Ομονοίας). Many churches and monasteries in Greece are festively decorated, as liturgies for the Annunciation will be held there.

Recently, APACCCEEC successfully participated with a Pavilion at the international exhibition FOOD EXPO 2025 in Athens – another demonstration of APACCCEEC’s fruitful cooperation with our Greek partners. Today’s National Day is a fitting occasion to express our wishes for the continued cooperation between our two countries with further joint initiatives and projects.
