The Chinese New Year is one of the most important national holidays of China and lasts 15 days. Each of these 15 days has its significance, depending on local traditions. The holiday is also known by the name Spring Festival and is celebrated except in China, also in Taiwan, Macau, Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mauritius and the Philippines.

Before the holiday people should clean and decorate their houses to attract luck. Besides a rich feast, the New Year’s Eve is celebrated with fireworks. Some families burn paper money, so the smoke goes to the sky and the year to bring them real money.  Windows and doors are decorated with red signs, also the members of the families exchange envelopes with money.

According to the Chinese Lunar Calendar, 2016 is the year of the Fire Monkey. The Monkey successfully solves problems and overcomes difficulties while demonstrating independence.

On the East this animal is on the highest honour. The monkey is defined like a wise and intelligent creature.
