Progress in the export of saffron and saffron bulbs from the Republic of Bulgaria to the PRC is already a fact. The Association for the Promotion of Agricultural Cooperation between China and the Central and Eastern European Countries coordinates the preparation of a list/register of Bulgarian companies that have expressed a desire to export saffron and saffron bulbs to China.

In connection with the initiated procedures for meeting the requirements for import into China, the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China sent a risk analysis questionnaire to the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA). Those who wish to produce saffron and saffron bulbs should provide the BFSA with:

  • Company name
  • Address /postal code, city, municipality, district, country/
  • UIC number/BULSTAT
  • Contact Person/Name, Mobile, Tel, Email
  • Type of agricultural production
  • Information about its processing plants

Only approved establishments can be exported to PRC, for which BFSA guarantees to the Chinese competent authorities that they comply with the hygiene rules laid down in the legislation and fulfill the agreed import conditions.

It is known that saffron has been successfully growing on our territory and in recent years the popularity of agricultural crops has grown. Chinese experts believe that saffron cultivation could increase the competitiveness of Chinese agriculture and help increase the incomes of those engaged in crop production.
