High-tech farms and experimental fields will be built within the framework of the Smart City project “St. Sofia” near Elin Pelin. This is clear from the strategic tripartite agreement signed during the 16+1 Summit in the presence of the Prime Ministers of the 17 countries.

At the seventh meeting of the Heads of Government of China and the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, an agreement was signed between Capital Concept Limited, represented by Dr. Chao Hong (Albert Huang) – Vice President, China Construction, represented by Tsai Kung Tang – General Manager, and Vasil Gelev – Executive Director of the Association for the Promotion of Agricultural Cooperation between China and the Central and Eastern European Countries. In addition to the construction of a high-tech agricultural demonstration zone, the agreement sets out the construction activities of China Construction.

The demonstration area will be used for breeding and selection of new and traditional varieties of agricultural products and techniques for their processing, as well as for the exchange of good practices in the field of research and development on agricultural products. One of the objectives of this area will be to contribute to the historical, cultural and tourist exchange between Bulgaria, the rest of the countries of Central and Eastern Europe and China. For this purpose, 17 demonstration buildings will be built, the first floors of which will have national pavilions where typical agricultural and other products from the relevant 16+1 countries will be presented. The other floors of the buildings will have information centers, investment consultants, travel agencies.

“Sveta Sofia” will include a modern congress and exhibition center and a number of first-class entertainment and business areas. In the congress halls will be organized forums of the 17 countries, there will be permanent expositions in the exhibition rooms, special months with promotions for each individual country, folklore festivals. The goal is to awaken the interest of the guests of “Sveta Sofia” to personally visit each of these countries. Culinary tourism will also be an important focus – in the buildings there will be special “16+1” menus with chefs and traditional specialties from different countries. The products will be from certified farms from China and CEE, which will be initially sampled and selected in the demonstration zones.
