03.05.2016 / “2015 was a record year for the production and processing of grapes and wine for our country”
“2015 has been a record year in terms of the production and processing of grapes and wine for our country for the last 20 years. Total wine production last year was more than 130 million liters, of which over 50 million liters were exported.” This was stated by Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Vasil Grudev during the official opening of the International Competition “Concours Mondila de Bruxelles”, which is being held in Plovdiv.
Deputy Minister Grudev said that as a traditional grape and wine producer, our country meets the high requirements for quality and protection of products. “Wine is an important touch of the image of our country’s economy. Viticulture has a millennial history and strong traditions in our lands and it is a privilege for us to host this competition”, the Deputy Minister added. He emphasized that the forum is not only one of many specialized exhibitions, but thanks to the work of many people it is one of its most representative showcases. “I am convinced that today’s competition will present the production of master winemakers who have something to boast about to the guests,” said Vasil Grudev.
Over 320 professional judges from 52 nationalities will visit Bulgaria and evaluate over 9,000 wines from 55 countries. Bulgaria has been selected as the capital of wine in competition with world-renowned winemakers such as Portugal, Italy and France.
