China, Bulgaria hope to deepen agricultural cooperation
Vice Minister Zhang Taolin visits Bulgaria
Vice Minister Zhang Taolin led a delegation to visit Bulgaria on 20-23 May 2017 and held a meeting with Tsvetan Dimitrov, Bulgarian Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Food and Forestry. The two leaders signed the Joint Statement on the Establishment of China-CEEC Agricultural Cooperation Demonstration Zone.
During his stay in Bulgaria, Vice Minister Zhang visited the Agricultural Academy of Bulgaria and the Agricultural University of Plovdiv, and exchanged views with the Bulgarian side on strengthening bilateral agricultural cooperation.
In meeting with Mr. Dimitrov, Vice Minister Zhang noted that the Belt and Road Initiative has provided a broad platform for agricultural cooperation between China and Central and Eastern European Countries (CEEC). China and Bulgaria are highly complementary in agricultural sector with abundant and distinctive agricultural resources on both sides. The first China-CEEC Agricultural Cooperation Demonstration Zone was launched in Bulgaria as a pragmatic step to implement the agricultural cooperation plan under the 16+1 framework. The Demonstration Zone, together with the Meeting of China-CEEC Ministers of Agriculture and International Forum on Agro-Trade and Economic Cooperation and the China-CEEC Association for the Promotion of Agricultural Cooperation, will become three major engines advancing multilateral agricultural cooperation of the 16+1 countries.
Mr. Dimitrov said that the China-CEEC Association for the Promotion of Agricultural Cooperation is headquartered in Bulgaria and he felt quite honored. Bulgaria is willing to cement cooperative relations with China to achieve mutual benefits and win-win outcomes. He believed that setting the first China-CEEC Agricultural Cooperation Demonstration Zone in this country will open a new chapter for bilateral and regional agricultural cooperation.
